The department aim is for students to be aware of the world in which they live, how the past effects the present and to promote tolerancy and understanding of other beliefs and cultures

Course(s) over view
Key Stage 3 (11 – 13 years)– Students complete topics in History, Geography and R.E.
Key Stage 4 (13 – 16 years) – Every Student completes a R.E. GCSE and have the option of taking History or Geography at GCSE
How will I be assessed?
Key Stage 3- Formative assessment (projects, presentations ) and summative assessment (end of topic and key stage tests)
Key Stage 4- Through Coursework and Examination set by the examination board
Humanities offer a largely traditional assessment process of GCSE’s
Where next?
Many students that opt to complete Humanities at GCSE then go on to study further at A level and University
The nature of Humanities subjects means that students have the ability to think independently, analyse data and evidence, write constructively, compare data and sources all skills which employers and placed of higher education value and set students apart.

Year 7 – Visit to langwith Church, Sherwood Pines, Derby open Centre, London Residential
Year 8 – visit to Bolsover Castle, Rufford Abbey Country Park
Year 9 – visit to Royal Armouries museum, Leeds
Year 10 & 11 – visit to Galleries of Justice, Nottingham, Beth Shalom, Newark, Krakow Residential
